How Do You Know When It’s Time to Go?

Many of our friends and family already know this, but we wanted to share it here too.

We’re moving.

You know it’s God when your husband comes home and says, “I think we should move in with your mom”.

That’s exactly what happened a few months ago.

Immediately we both knew it was what we were supposed to do.

Then we started trying to figure it out. How would it work? What would we do with our dog and what would we do about where we currently live?

For a while we decided that it wasn’t going to work and that we had to figure out something else. But for some reason we couldn’t let it go. We knew what God was asking us to do, but we kept trying to fill in the details to make it work in our minds.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct[a] your paths.
— King Solomon (Proverbs 3:5-6)

So, despite our lack of understanding we decided to make the move.

From the time we made that decision everything else about this transition has been so easy.

We’ve known for quite some time that God is calling us to pastor a church. We are in love with the local church and we are so excited to be a part of the way God is using and is going to use His body to impact a community and ultimately the world.

We believe He’s put a city on our hearts as a starting point, but we want to go spend a little time there before we make an official announcement.

We know we’ve got to get ready. That means we’ve got to be healthy in every area of our lives.

Over the past two years we’ve been through so much. Our marriage is stronger than ever before and our family is healthy. Financially, we want to be in the same shape.

For the summer, we are moving to Kansas and trusting the Lord from there.

We will be able to save some money and spend some time with my mom. We’ll be travelling a lot this summer and visiting friends and family. Matt also has some opportunities to minister. I love that my man can preach!

So how did we know it was time to go?

1. We are content and we could get comfortable.

We love Tulsa. That’s a big deal. The city, the food, the people; it’s a great place to live. We’d be totally fine staying, but we would know we were missing it.

2. We’ve grown to capacity.

If Tulsa is a fishbowl, we’re about as big as we’re going to get. It’s time to step out and move on to a new set of challenges. If we want to grow we’ve got to go.

3. Time feels short.

There’s an urgency to what God is calling us to. We can’t deny it. It’s a super sobering thought.

4. We have an inexplicable peace.

We’re not frustrated. We’re not anxious. Even though we don’t know exactly what the next six months to a year will hold, there is nowhere we would rather be than the center of God’s will.

We want to thank you for the tremendous support you’ve shown us. Your prayers and encouragement are truly a gift from God.

As we embark on this new journey we want to share it with all of you so you will continue to see updates from us on a regular basis (this means maintaining new blog posts every Thursday).

When we hear that you still remember us from years ago, or that you enjoy reading the blog it makes our day!

We do what we do because we know it’s what God has called us to. For every time you read, share, like or subscribe it makes this journey a little bit sweeter. So, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
